Like many Torontonians, David Miller and his family came to Canada in search of a better life. He and his mother arrived from England in 1967 and moved to Toronto in 1981. He received an economics degree from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of Toronto.
Before running for public office, David Miller was a partner at Aird & Berlis, a prominent Toronto law firm, where he specialized in employment and immigration law and shareholder rights. He became a Metro Toronto councillor in 1994. In 1997, he was elected to the new City of Toronto council. In November 2003, Torontonians chose David Miller as their new mayor.
Under Mayor Miller's leadership, Toronto has become safer, stronger, cleaner and greener. His "clean and beautiful" program has reduced litter on our streets by 40%. We have seen new parks and public spaces take shape on the waterfront. The Mayor's community safety strategy has involved stronger enforcement -- with 450 more police officers on our streets -- and new programs to help young people in Toronto's 13 most vulnerable neighbourhoods. By building partnerships with the governments of Ontario and Canada, Mayor Miller has delivered large new investments in public transit, policing, child care and the waterfront.
Mayor David Miller is working hard today to build the Toronto we want for tomorrow. He has a compelling vision of a city that is safe, strong, creative and clean. A city with a great transit system. And a city that leaves no one behind by creating equal opportunity for all.
Great cities are about shared vision, shared hope, and shared pride. Please join Mayor Miller building a great city by voting for him on Monday November 13th.
